Hi, I’m Holly Murphy
My journey
I coded my first website over 17 years ago, well before took my husbands name to become Holly Murphy. I built my first site completely from scratch using HTML and honestly, it looked terrible! It was a start though.
Since then, I qualified as an astrophysicist, meteorologist and went into senior Management, all the while web designing as a hobby. So how did I get to this point? By becoming a Mum and finally taking the time to re-discover my passion!
Why web design?
Pre-kids, my life was hectic, I was travelling all the time which simply wasn’t sustainable with one, let alone with two small humans depending on me. As is seemingly common among parents, something had to give. I was planning to return to work after the birth of my first child but when he was only a month old, reality hit hard and I decided to resign.
Although I knew that I’d made the right decision for my family, I quickly found myself losing my sense of self, asking “what now?” over and over again. It can be hard for parents who’ve spent years investing in their education and career to suddenly shift into parenthood, many feel lost. However, in those moments of self reflection came sprinkle of luck and a tidal wave of inspiration.
After the birth of my daughter, I was offered the opportunity to work for a company that opened my eyes once again to the world of coding, web and user-experience (UX) design. I quickly discovered a passion for UX design, took extra courses, and started creating websites that not only look beautiful, but are intelligently designed to please humans and importantly, search engines like Google.

Why do I use Squarespace & Shopify?*
It’s simple - my clients love them! During my coding and UX design journey, I dabbled with other Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Wordpress, but Squarespace won hands down for brochure websites and Shopify for e-commerce due to their reliability, help centre, online tutorials, visual design tools and beautiful aesthetics. The really great thing about them are the intuitive interfaces - meaning clients find it easy to manage their own website once its built (not having to rely on a web designer for every word or image change).

Am I a Graphic Designer?
No.
I’m not a Graphic Designer, nor do I pretend to be. I’m a web and user-experience (UX) designer. In order to work with me, you will need branding for your business.
